Ruth Juliet Nyambura Gachanja is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya . She is a child rights
and anti-human trafficking specialist with an LLM in International Children’s Rights (Leiden
University-NL); LLM in Minorities, Rights, and the Law (Middlesex University – UK), and an LLB
from Moi University, Kenya.
Miss Gachanja is a Law Lecturer at Kabarak University. She lectures in Children and the Law,
Fundamental Rights and Freedoms and Public Health Law. Her research interests are focused on
the rights of children and combatting human trafficking. Her research has contributed to the Children
Act, 2022; the National Plan of Action on Combating Human Trafficking, Justice Policy guide
ending modern slavery amongst others.
Miss Gachanja also serves as a Child Justice Advisor to the Chief Justice of Kenya. She is a member
of the NCAJ Standing Committee on the Administration of Justice for Children. She is championing
the work of Love Justice International- Kenya- which works to intercept human trafficking through
transit border monitoring. Miss Gachanja also serves as the Board Chairperson of African Institute
for Children Studies. Previously, she has chaired Delta 8.7 global Justice Network and lead the
development of Justice Policy guides ending modern slavery. She served as the first Chairperson of
the first Advisory Committee (2014-2017) on Human Trafficking established under the Counter
Trafficking in Persons Act, Kenya and the Executive Director of The CRADLE-The Children
Foundation.
