Dr. Josephat Tonui, PhD, MSc, BSc, is a faculty member in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Kabarak University's School of Medicine and Health Sciences. With an MSc and BSc in Medical Microbiology from JKUAT and a PhD in Medical Microbiology from UoN, Dr. Tonui has extensive training and practical experience in microbial sciences, particularly in diagnostics for research and clinical laboratories. His interests include health system strengthening, tuberculosis diagnostics, antimicrobial resistance, fungal diseases, microbial food safety, biosafety, and biosecurity. Dr. Tonui has supported the adoption of new molecular diagnostic technologies for TB in Kenya and is currently involved in a study evaluating LIASON XL QFT IGRA for diagnosing latent TB. With over six years of teaching experience, he instructs courses in microbiology, mycology, bacteriology, virology, and infection prevention and control. Additionally, Dr. Tonui serves as the research chair for the School of Medicine & Health Sciences, overseeing research, conferences, innovation, and outreach activities. He is a member of the Biorisk Management Association of Kenya (BMAK) and the Epidemiology and Biostatistics Society of Kenya (EBSOK).
